Your 1st jump is technically a solo skydive assisted by 2 AFF Instructors during freefall.ĪFF- AFF is slightly less expensive but does not include any tunnel time and holds a higher potential for repeating levels. Receiving indoor coaching will make you more likely to pass all of your levels without having to repeat any.ĪTP- You will receive valuable under canopy instruction with your tandem instructor making the canopy flight and landing easier to understand more completely.ĪFF- You don’t have to do any tandems. The 10 minutes spent in the wind tunnel are equivalent to 10-12 skydives worth of freefall experience. This means we can get you manifested and in the air faster, with fewer staff members required for your training jumps.ĪTP- You get coaching at an indoor wind tunnel. In the AFF Course, very experienced and well trained Instructors provide the necessary training to teach an individual to become a safe. This is a change from the old group style training that was designed to provide quantity instead of quality training. That was all about to change, as I signed up for the American Parachute Association’s Accelerated Freefall course, in anticipation of having to jump into the northern Rockies, later this year. All jumps in the ATP program are “Single-Instructor” jumps. Accelerated Freefall is a structured course designed as individualized One on One Training. Both programs include excellent instruction but the advantages of ATP over AFF are many.ĪTP- You progress faster and will likely become licensed faster. Thankfully for him, his senior officer was there to get him out of a terrifying predicament. Level 8 you will exit the aircraft alone, from a lower height, to simulate an emergency situation. Levels 4-7 are completed with only 1 instructor. This first time accelerated freefall student overlooks the basics and slips into a wild spin.
